School Vision
McDonogh #32 Literacy Academy seeks to provide a challenging learning environment promoting literacy across the curriculum. We the faculty, staff, students and parents are dedicated to high academic, technological and social standards for our learning community.
We believe that with an effective school leadership community, we can foster mutual respect and trust. We have the making of a successful learning community with a high level of collaboration and communication. We will focus on aligning the curriculum, instruction, and assessment with district, state and national standards.
We will also implement Singapore Math, this fall, as a key component to improving our math scores. We will use Achievement Network as an assessment tool for Math and ELA, which will give us specific areas to improving deficiencies that our students are displaying.
In addition, we will increase our students’ use of Tabula Digital/Dimension U, a computerized math program which will give our students the skills they need in math while providing a game-like instruction that will keep them motivated.
We are now in the process of revamping the school by developing a partnership with Teach for America to help increase the quality of instruction in our school. We are eager about this partnership in hopes that it will combine community and school, through our efforts of improving students’ skills across all curriculums.
We are focusing on improving the RTI process for students’ support in academics and behavior through interventions. We will have quarterly academic benchmark monitoring with a new curriculum focusing on high mathematics and literacy standards. We will also have an additional focus on reading across the curriculum, as well as integration of technology across the curriculum.
We will also continue to offer extracurricular activities in academics, sports, and music. We offer Young Audiences as an after school program to offer remediation in Math and ELA, for students in K-3 and 5-7 while embedding creative arts, African dance and drums.
